MACAPLE

The factory

Some history ...

Macaple was founded in 1947 by a local family at the Plessis Trevise ( Paris region). First it manufactured articles in plastic for advertisement, domestic.

In 1969, Macaple enters Air France supplier pool.

In 1972, Building of a 8000 m2 factory in Pithiviers over a 20 000 m2 space. It is one of the most modern plastic factory in France . The Thermoforming unit creation allows Macaple to widen its range of products and enter new markets in France and Europe .

In 1985, Opening of a subsidiary in Canada .

In 1987, bankruptcy.

In 1988, Macaple's take over by Borden Inc. USA (Borden is part of KKR Group).

In 1996, KKR sold 66 % of Borden shares to AEP Inc. specialist in packaging film.

In 1998, Macaple is taken over by Mr. Hartley who becomes the sole ownership of the company.

Since then Macaple has undergone thorough overhauls : rationalizations in warehouses, new industrial and sales policy, switch to 2000 Year with a new computer system, implementation of Quality process.

In 2000 Macaple SA becomes Macaple SAS.

In February 2002, Macaple is certified ISO 9001 – version 2000.

In 2006, Macaple employs 74 people.

Just few words on the Technology ...

Macaple handles three different main technologies in plastic packaging : Injection, Thermoforming and Extrusion and manages the recycling of plastic materials.

Extrusion allows to manufacture plastic sheet which then will be thermoformed to give a container, a lid, a tray etc....

The Extrusion is a serious process and needs very big investments.

Thermoforming is the logical process after extrusion. The plastic sheet is heated until it becomes soft. The piece is moulded according the its final design. The stretching of the plastic material is caused by compressed air on one side and by the emptiness on the other side. The piece is then cut and stacked before being controlled and packed. The “scrap” is the material lost during the thermoformed process. It represents from 25 to 50 % of the total plastic material.

Our production turnover can go up to 250 000 pieces per day.

Plastic materials are recycled in-house which guarantees the perfect control on quality and their origin.

Here is the extruder die of the granulating machine which allows us to regenerate the material.

In Injection we can manufacture more complicated articles. Here the plastic material is melted by heat and injected under pressure (several hundreds of bars) in a tooling made in steel. Once the material is cooled down the mould opens and the piece is ejected.

Macaple owns a machine float from 150 to 240 tons (locking strength) dedicated to items with thin walls. For thick walls the machine float operates from 135 to 1000 tons.

Unlike it is currently thought more the wall is thin (disposable concept) more the technology is sophisticated.

Macaple operates warehouses for raw material, cartons, pallets etc and a picking area.

Our products take up considerable space and it is very difficult to stock the whole needs of our customers during the peaking season.
